This is by far the best birdfeeder I've ever owned or heard of. I have had one for years, and it is still going strong. Its ingenious design makes it completely weatherproof. The parts are threaded one above another on a central shaft making it a cinch to completely disassemble it for cleaning (which I never get around to doing).The seeds can be plucked one by one by the birds through a narrow gap around the body while they stand on the bottom shelf which is shielded from the rain by another wide tent-like plastic dish. Use only black oil sunflower seed. Regular sunflower seeds are too big to go through the gap. Most birds like black oil seed best anyway. Because the feeding gap stretches all around the outside of the seed container, many birds can eat at the same time. We have little birds like sparrows and finches at the same time as bigger birds like cardinals and bluejays.
Refilling the huge 6-cup (1-1/2 quart) bin is a cinch: Take feeder off the hook, set it down, unscrew the top hanger, lift off the top disk, and pour, then put the top disk and hanger back. I bought a trash can that holds a 25-pound bag of seed.I buy the seed at the local farm supply store for less than $10, and scoop it into the feeder with a plastic water pitcher which I leave in the trash can.
I know it's a lot of money,but believe me, it's worth every penny.
