Compact Tray Ground Bird Feeder, Black Review

Nice little feeder if that's the size you want. This tray is very small, just under 7 inches square.It is a very well made, sturdy, attractive tray.However I did not notice that there were no dimentions listed - I mistakenly looked at the dimentions for a similar item shown on that same page that was 16x13 (sadly, an easy mistake to make here if you're in a hurry) and thought that was the size I was getting.A great disappointment. I kept it because it wasn't worth shipping it back.And it is a nice little tray for putting out eggshells or special tidbits.But I would never have bought it had I known its small size.My own fault for not reading more carefully, but I'm disappointed in a seller who does not disclose the dimentions of his product.

This feeder brings back memories of watching the birds as a child during my summers in Maine.When the seeds get low, you could often watch thebirds on both sides of the feeder, until one bird got a little tooproprietary, or the other got spooked and took wing.
It holds enoughseed so you are not filling it every day, but not too much, since as Iremember as a child it is easy and fun to watch the seed poor in from theswivel top.

Droll Yankees PWRSTK Power Stick for Yankee Series Feeders Review

this power stick does not fit the charger that came with Flipper purchased 6 years ago (the pin that attaches to the charger is the wrong size). I called Droll Yankee customer service, was told that the "pin size" on the power stick had been changed and that I needed a new charger. They said that when they sell the power stick, they sell the new charger along with it.

WoodLink Large Wood Platform Bird Feeder 3 in 1 Review

This is a Great feeder tray. I like the removable metal mesh screen for easy cleaning. Feeder is well constructed with the exception of the small legs supported by a single screw. The legs fold in, loosen and drop after awhile. Not the most stable legs. For ground support I prefer using a pole mount (by the way not provided)and mounting on a short post about two feet from the ground for my bird photography. I do like and have used the hanger, feeder stays nice and level when hanging, but often I remove the hanger when pole mounted.
I love using tray feeders because there so versatile, especially for bird photography because you can attract so many species with different types of food, anytime of year. Orange halves & dishes of grape jelly & sugarwater for Orioles, grapes, fruit & berries, seed, nuts, busted up suit, popcorn & bread crumbs. Can be creative.
I've had so many species become regulars to this feeder, Cardnils, blue jays, juncos, woodpeckers, nuthatches, and many more.
I had a little trouble at first with getting the product I wanted from The Natures Room, but they where promt and courteuos to get me exactly what I wanted. I gave this a 4 star rating due to the cheaply done legs but great product for the price. I would buy it again and buy more Woodlink feeders.

Seattle Rain Guard, 10" Clear Review

This is a wonderful product. If you have a yankee feeder and you want to protect your bird seed from the rain this is the product to get. The birds like it, it keeps the seeds fairly protected (not counting rain conditions like rain coming from the side and not straight down) and it fits snugly on the feeder. It's very easy to move up and down to where you need it. Only designed for Yankee feeders.

Also tip: It's easier to put on when your feeder is empty. The design of my feeder you have to put it on from the bottom, not the top. All yankee feeders may be designed like that or it could just be mine but check which way is easiest to put on before filling up.

Also I brought the Droll Omni Seed tray that is meant for yankee feeders and it's great to. I have both the Omni Tray and the rain guard on my feeder and the birds love both and it saves seeds and I'm all about saving money! Less seeds wasted...less money spent.

Best-1 Hummingbird Feeder Review

Last year my husband gave me 2 of these feeders for my birthday. The birds really didn't like them as well as some other ones I had out. I was browsing a Hummingbird web site one day and found that this Hummingbird feeder are death traps for the lil' fellas. It's feeding holes are in an unnatural position and the tube that goes inside can trap their beaks and they can hang there and die. The web-site had a pictures of a hummingbird hanging from one of these feeders. They do have a fix for them. drill at an angle, for a more natural position and shave off the tube inside. We did this and the birds like it better.

I live in an apartment complex with a deck about twenty yards from a busy road and for the last two years I have enjoyed active hummingbird activity on this exact feeder seven miles north of the Golden Gate all year round. In fact I am writing this review because I called a friend to tell her that at 5pm for the first time I had five hummingbirds perched on this feeder all at the same time in the rain despite there being three spots on which to feed and there was a sixth bird hovering very close by! The friend's feeder only has one drinking spot and she asked me where she could buy it so research brought me here. This price with free shipping is much cheaper than from the manufacturer. Only downside to this most beautiful of all hummingbird feeders is that the wood does deteriorate after long exposure to winter rain. To prepare their food, just boil one third white granulated sugar to two thirds water and then cool the resulting mixture right off to make the birds happy; you don't need coloring in the first place (as I started with ordinary plain glass and it worked fine) and the glass is red anyway! Hummingbirds will find you in a week... Oh and use a thick rubber band to eliminate the gap between the bottom of the bottle and the brass feeder lid so that bees and yellow jackets cannot access the sugary drink and therefore have no motive for competing with the hummingbirds.

This is a great idea, but a bad reality. I've had my feeder for two years now, and no matter whether you set it up for sunflower seeds or finch seeds, the birds just give up on it after awhile. They simply can't get the seed out and we've never been able to figure out why. They will empty out feeder after feeder of any other brand, but even when I take all the others down to fill them and this one is the only one hanging, they won't feed out of it. It will hang, nearlly full for an entire season. Don't know what the problem is, but the birds just can't get anything out of it and after awhile, they give up.

Pros:I originally ordered this feeder because of its larger capacity than the traditional, single tube feeder.It took about two weeks for my little feathered friends to get familiar with the new feeder, so you have to be patient. I discovered that if the perches on the feeder are placed in their fully-opened position, small and medium sized birds (Juncos and Redwing Blackbirds, in my area) really enjoy this this feeder. Cons: 1-If you attempt to adjust the perches, smaller, to exclude medium-sized birds, I found that the perches will not stay in position.Any larger bird, unsuccessfully, attempting to land will push the perches into the feeder, thus preventing even small birds from landing.It's too bad, that the feeder wasn 't designed to lock the perches in position, as does, when fully-opened.2-Because of the angle of the feeder openings, even small birds are able to empty these feeders much more quickly, than the traditional single tube feeder.The result, is that you have a lot more seed on the ground than in the feeder, in a very short time.

DUNCRAFT SATELLITE BIRD FEEDER Review

Only small song birds can eat from it. It takes only black sunflower seeds although I use a premium blend and the birds just love it. It allows only ONE bird at a time to feed from it. And because of this, don't expect a lot of bird traffic. But it's very well made, its plastic is very hard/strong/thick. Much more sturdy than Duncraft's Cling-a-Wing globe feeder. I need to limit bird traffic & seed dropping as chipmunks (and soon squirrels) are attracted big time so this low-traffic small feeder suits my specific application well, but if you desire something else, this feeder may disappoint you.

Bouquet 3 Hummingbird Feeder Violet Review

I actually purchased the Bouquet 3 Clear Gift Set, not this violet one. But for some reason it now says it has not been released so I can't add a review. But I'm sure the different colors are the same product so I feel comfortable reviewing this item.

The feeder was received promptly (2 days - I am a Prime member) and in perfect condition. It is really beautiful. I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet but it has only been a day and I'm sure they need time to find it. On a positive note, I also haven't seen any ants yet either! I am hoping that it's due to the cute little upside down umbrella that's meant to guard against ants. Again, the umbrella only comes with the "Gift Set". The set also includes a cleaning brush and a package of nectar. I'm aware it's easy to make your own nectar but since it came with the set I figured why not? I would highly recemmond Parasol's Bouqet 3 hummingbird feeder!

Best-1 32 Ounce Hummingbird Feeder Kit Review

I bought this feeder based upon one thing; capacity.When I received it and tried to use it, I discovered there are other things more important than just capacity.

1.I was disappointed in the plastic bottle.I expected something thicker that this; it is so thin that the side collapses as the level drops inside.

2.The birds do NOT like the horizontal feeding surface nearly as well as the feeders that have the feeding ports slanted at an angle.

3.The birds do NOT like a feeding port area that is all one color, with no representation of flower blooms on it.

4.This is the MOST important one.This feeder does NOT have a removable hanger on it.There is a molded loop on the top of the plastic jar to hang it by.That makes it impossible to set this jar on a surface to pour nector into it.To make it even worse, they have a large metal hook tightly closed in this loop with the OTHER end open for hooking it into a string to hang the feeder up by.The only way I can fill this feeder is to center the jar on the drain in the sink with the loop and hook sticking down into the drain.It is unstable this way, and frequently slips and tilts during filling.

Avoid this product.By the time I paid for the feeder and shipping, I could have bought almost three of the quart feeders from Wal-Mart, which are GLASS bottles with a hanger that unscrews to allow the jar to sit FLAT while filling it.They have feeding stations that are designed to look like flowers, and the little hummers LOVE them.

I ordered this based on the photo, but was not that impressed with the actual item.On the plus size, this is a LARGE heavy glass feeder.On the negative side, the feeding tube at the base tends to leak, the flower and bee don't look as good as they do in the photo, and the bottle is wrapped with a thick wire.I understand the need to have some sort of support for a heavy glass feeder, but the wire appeared to be hastily wound and gave the feeder a cheap appearance.In addition to that, the bottle had been wrapped in a thin layer of plastic for protection during shipping, and the wire had been affixed on top of that, and wound so tightly that it was impossible (even with tweezers) to remove all the bits of plastic that had become trapped between the wire and the glass.Loosening the wire to remove the packing material made the feeder more flimsy.Save your money and pay a little extra to buy a handcrafted hummingbird feeder at a craft show or bazaar, otherwise stick with a basic feeder.This one has the appearance of something that's been mass produced in China, which - surprise! - it was.

MiniBlossom Hummingbird Feeder Aqua on Stake Review

I love the look of this feeder, and it attracts hummingbirds just as well as the less aesthetically pleasing plastic feeders.However, it is VERY hard to keep ants from invading.The "upside down umbrella moats" will work given a few conditions.First, if you are using a planter as a base, the leaves of plants are very hard to keep below the moat.Due to the weight of the feeder and the flimsiness of the stake, it is very hard to position it so that it doesn't lean into a branch (a.k.a ant bridge).Second, the moats (sold separately) are usually black which causes the small amount of water it will hold to evaporate rapidly.Third, the moat used as an upside down umbrella have to be rigged so that they are water tight (I used some tile caulk).They are sold with the intent that petroleum jelly or something similar can fill them, but in my experience, this only provides an obstacle, not a barricade.If you are creative and like to solve little problems, then this feeder is really beautiful.If not, I would opt for the hanging feeders which are equally as beautiful.You can use a similar stake and then hang your feeder if you do not have anything to hang your feeder from (which is why I bought this particular feeder in the first place).If you have the time, come up with a creative moat of your own.Here's my idea, use a large vase, partially fill with cement (or the like) and place your stake while still wet.For added support, I filled the rest of the vase with matching different sized glass pebbles and sand for extra support.You might want to put some marbles or glass in the cement portion as well.You can then fill the vase with water, and voila you have a light reflecting ant moat!(I recommend treating the water to prevent mosquitos from breeding)To sum it up, I rate this high in form but not so great in function.By the way, I bought a teal feeder for my mom and a red for myself, and the teal really reflects the sunlight better, making the glass appear more vibrant.

Wingscapes WSCA02 BirdCam 2.0 with Flash Review

First, I must say that as long as there is bright sunlight, this camera works as advertised.However, the camera flash works poorly or not at all.

The first unit's display would blank out after a period of time and rarely take a flash picture ... even when waving my hands in front of the camera.I called the manufacturer and they promptly sent a replacement.

Consequently, I was setting up the replacement unit for its first night out to see if it operated properly. I installed relatively new batteries(EverReady Alkaline Engergizer purchased new, had been used in first BirdCam for 2 days -- display indicated 91%).I tested unit in house, and noticed that immediately after the display would indicate "Flash Charging", the display would cycle back to "Auto" and then perform a 30 second countdown. This happened over and over -- occasionally it would take a picture. But more often than not, it would simply return to the countdown menu.

My suspicion was that charging the flash was causing a momentary voltage dip resetting the unit (similar to cycling the power switch).

To test this theory, I attached the BirdCam to a regulated 12V power supply through the plug on the bottom.Now the BirdCam worked as expected. The flash would charge and it would take a picture -- never returning to the countdown menu.I noticed that when the flash charged, the amperage meter of the power supply would jump quickly and then return to the normal low current draw.

I then tested the original BirdCam using batteries to see if it would also reset when the flash charges --It does. Almost every time the flash charges, the device resets (wasting many picture opportunities).If the 12V power supply isused, then again no problem.

I then went to Radio Shack and bought some very expensive rechargeable batteries and charger (NiMH batteries, thinking they might be able to better handle the power surge without a voltage dip).They exhibit the same problem even when fully charged.

Well, at least I understand why the BirdCam (both the original and its replacement) produced so few flash photos -- it effectively keeps turning itself off. I thought about using the unit outside and powering it from a 12V motorcycle battery; but, I mount it on tripod and the tripod covers up the 12V power port.

In summary, I find myself with an expensive camera that is basically a flawed design and incapable of reliably triggering for flash photos.

It doesn't work correctly with fully charged rechargeable D cells (even at room temperature)
It doesn't work correctly with disposable D cells when cells < ~50 Degrees F
It resists installations using an external 12V battery pack.

I was honestly very excited to receive the BirdCam as a gift ... especially after reading so many glowing reviews.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.I don't want another camera to replace the replacements .... it's a flawed design, another camera will not fix this.

I provided the above information to WingScapes and they suggested that I "put the camera outside to see if it takes pictures".

This purchase was a great one!I had never seen this type bird feeder, and wondered what it would actually look like and how my bird would react to it.My questions were answered once I received it, it is by far the best bird feeder I have ever used for my bird, and I have had birds for over 20 years.When it says husk catcher, it does exactly what it says, no more husks on the floor of the cage or carpet.My bird is one not to take to new things easily when put in his cage, he adapted to this feeder quickly and I can tell he enjoys it very much, two happy customers!!!
